Puppy Training

Puppy training - Early training is obviously always the best time to create an everlasting bond. Dogs who are trained early are more likely to follow your every move and most likely know your gestures. Our puppy training classes are in the evenings at 17h30 on Wednesdays.

CLICKER TRAINING & ELECTRONIC / SHOCK TRAINING IS NOT TRAINED BY US ALTHOUGH WE HAVE EXAMINED & UNDERSTAND THIS.

WE CONCENTRATE ON POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT, MOTIVATIONAL TRAINING WITHOUT DOMINANCE TO ENHANCE THE DOG-OWNER RELATIONSHIP.

PLEASE REMEMBER, just as humans, dogs have good days & bad days. When you enter our arena you will go home having had a better day!

TRAINING TREATS

At SA Dog Trainers we allow treats but keep it to the minimum.

Do not feed your dog before coming to class. Please remember that the dog may not take to a treat when arriving because there are a lot of distractions! Once his focus is on you, give him/her a treat to keep the focus.

Please carry the bag on the opposite side of where your dog is walking next to you. Your dog will be getting a treat in class when the trainer shows you.

You may ask the trainer if you can give your dog a treat especially when YOU think he/she really did well and deserves one!

TRAINING GEAR

Please come with all the gear you think is appropriate and the trainer will then advise what to use for what purpose.

For instance, when Linda goes to her training sessions, we have a leather band and a choke chain around the neck – not too tight – and the harness.

During training you may needs a choke chain and once the dog understands the tightening, her trainer will allow the quick & easy clip on to the leather band.

When the class is over, again there is a quick change over to the clip on the harness and a more relaxed atmosphere is created.
