Dog training is certainly one of the most controversial topics humans will analyze amongst themselves and not come to any conclusions. We humans are ignorant as to how important it is to teach ourselves before teaching our dogs the wrong things. We listen to short cuts where there is none, since dedication is a commodity we rarely share with our canine, especially if young children or our work takes up most of our time.
SA Dog Trainers will teach your dog the basics with yourself or an ‘au pair’ that may have time to do this on your behalf. This may continue up to our Intermediate class III. Alternatively, you can opt for a one-on-one session (lesson duration 1 hour ) with one of our SA Dog Trainer personnel in the comfort of your own garden.

There are many different breeds with many different traits. Our goal with our Intermediate I & II course, is to teach you and your canine, the basics which form part of natural canine behaviour, just like a child will learn how to start eating with a spoon to a fork and then a knife. As you both progress to Intermediate V, your interaction regarding:
- Association between stimuli
- Habitation
- Re- enforcements
- Watchfulness what you do and what you want verbally & your body language

We will be watchful for signs when your canine is stressed in his/her subordinate role to you and boost self-confidence. Dogs normally can solve most of the tasks we give them on their own without the handler becoming too dominated.
With many dogs in the arena or at home, you will notice that there is a leader and the subordinates will follow and observe and this is where we want your canine to learn how to cope on its own without anxiety towards other dogs. Following human cues, SA Dog Trainers will teach appropriate reaction to pointing, body language by the time you reach Intermediate V.
When we come to certain types of dogs, we certainly have the athletes, the stubborn ones, the lazy and the over eager ones AND MANY MORE! This is also very true with humans! At SA Dog Trainers, we will assist in placing your ‘child’ in the correct group where they can learn from you and the group. Our biggest aim is to help you both not to feel ‘lost’ but in fact to achieve the highest self-confidence possible. Remember this is a learning curve for the both of you!
Emotional intelligence must be developed, as with humans and the more positive re-enforcement and repetitions we do, the more natural our acceptance.
Sex-specific dynamics are very important to understand and your canine will react differently unless handlers implement proper training. As far as possible, we need to be firm in a group set-up. It is therefore important to evaluate your best friend beforehand at our exercising yard. This comes at no charge.
